I have to confess that I was and still remain unreconciled to her absence. Long and enduring connections have been suddenly severed. And I, like legions of Syd's admirers, mourn because those bonds connected us to a woman of uncommon good sense, kindness, generosity and a sly, unquenchable humor that so easily calmed the afflicted and downcast heart. We felt her love, were strengthened by it and found a place of comfort. But it is Syd's life that deserves celebration. I am delighted that such recognition lies ahead at an appropriate time and place.
