Mom liked to read in bed. You’d go into her bedroom and she’d be sitting up with her pillows and pages and pages of newspaper sprawled out beside her - and she’d be watching the Mets. Mom loved the Mets. My cousin Ruth Piller, who lived up the street from us, shared Mom’s love. Ruth had composed the original “Meet the Mets” theme song for the team back in the 60’s. It’s true that sometimes as late as midnight - on a game night, Ruth would call Syd to discuss the highs and lows of the game they’d both just watched! Mom liked nothing better than going to a Mets game and taking it all in first hand. I inherited her love of baseball and look forward to opening day in April as I write this.
